There’s a new breed of smartphone on the market that should appeal to the snowsports enthusiasts. These particular phones help ensure you don’t have to worry about your phone on those really moist days on the mountain. I’m talking about the release of waterproof android based smartphones. Up until recently the iPhone ruled the roost on the mountain with a plethora of apps to help you follow your way around the mountain or track your activities so you have proof of your bragging rights with your mates in the apres-ski bar. Nowadays Android phones have similar apps and phone manufacturers are looking for ways to make their new models stand out from the crowd. Samsung have released the Galaxy S4 Active GT-I9295. This phone can withstand 30 minutes being submerged to a depth of a meter so should easily cope with the moisture on a ski slope. The
S4 currently rates as one of the best smartphones on the market so you can’t go far wrong selecting this phone when you hit the piste . Sony have their waterproof offerings the Xperia Z and the Xperia Z ultra. These phone’s have similar water resistant credentials to Samsung’s offering and their specs aren’t too dissimilar either. The Z ultra version of the Sony has 6.4″ screen, so this could be the one to go for if plan on watching movies on your phone, whilst stuck in a gondola however in my mind a bigger screen just means a bulkier phone and probably not what you want in a phone to accompany you on the slopes. Of course which ever phone you go with you will still need to protect your phone from getting smashed in the usual way with a rigid case, but you should never experience the mushy noise you get out of the earpiece of a ‘damp’ smartphone.
