For many extreme sports enthusiasts, there’s nothing better than hitting the mountains or slopes to a soundtrack of their favourite music. But finding the right headphones that can live up to challenge can be a bit tricky. After all, they need to be far stronger and more resistant than the headphones you might use on a day to day basis. To make your life a little bit easier, we’ve put together a selection of headphones that are suitable for adrenaline junkies.
SkullCandy are probably the best known brand when it comes to headphones for those interested in winter sports. They’re usually found in specialist snowboard and ski stores and have been given endorsements from various action sport professionals. The Aviator headphones cover the ears entirely, making for great sound quality. They’re also easy to drop around the neck if necessary without losing anything or having pieces go flying off in various directions.
The Aviator model is endorsed by Jay-Z. We’re not sure how keen he is on extreme sports, but he’s obviously a massive music fan, so it’s safe to say that he’s probably a credible source when it comes to this sort thing. They also come with a well-made carry case that allows you to carry around the (fairly chunky) headphones in a reasonably compact way.
At £160, they’re fairly expensive. But that’s what you might expect from a set of SkullCandy headphones. They offer excellent sound quality and are super stylish.
Aerial 7’s Phoenix model is another can-style headphone, offering a snug fit and brilliant quality of sound. They also benefit from a reinforced frame. This isn’t to say that they’re entirely unbreakable, but it does help a little bit and means that they’re slightly more likely to stay in one piece.
They’re compatible with mobiles and media players. They also come in a range of various colours and easily rival SkullCandy when it comes to the style stakes. At around £60, they’re reasonably priced headphones with some fantastic features.
The headphones you choose are likely to be determined by your budget, recommendations from friends and your previous experiences with brands. If you’re looking for a bit of inspiration, both the SkullCandy and Aerial 7 models could be a great place to start.
As a side note, always be especially careful when you’re using headphones whilst taking part in extreme sports. The safety of yourself and others around you should always be your primary concern.
